Ecostewards Journal

Chairman's Message

As World Stewardship entered its 4th year of activity, we added "hands-on" stewardship of planting trees to our programs that are preserving forests and other ecosystems (see Sarah Nossaman's article, Young Minds, Young Trees). We would like to expand this program to involve churches and schools planting thousands of trees in 1999.

In September, we initiated a series of Stewardship Councils. This gave us a chance to review our three years of work and reflect upon what will motivate people to be environmental stewards. Ed Castellini, our new Executive Director, volunteered his time to facilitate the series of councils, and we now invite you to join us once a month on Saturdays to develop a curriculum to teach stewardship and apply it through action. Call Ed at (707) 573-3160 for more information.

Please sign up for our new Email Action Alert service! We have started this service to help people quickly write letters to legislators, corporations and government agencies. We e-mail you effectively worded letters on environmental issues, which you can then edit, print out on your stationery, and send off. Since one letter is generally counted as representing 600 people who have the same opinion, but didn't write a letter, one person can make a huge impact in just a few minutes each week. If you have any questions about this service or have letters you would like us to include, contact Sarah Nossaman at < sarahn@ecostewards.org > BroadLink is providing the high-speed Internet service to make this possible.

We urge you to join us in our work. Become a member of WSI and put your donations to work in our programs. I'm at Warren@BroadLink.com Happy New Year. Warren Linney Chairman
